Sri Lanka have named their 14-man squad for the opening Test against England with in-form batsman Chamara Silva replacing all-rounder Angelo Mathews.

Mathews missed the Asia Cup with a calf injury and Silva's knock of 163 against England in a tour game has earned him a recall along with a prolific season in domestic cricket.

He will be hoping to add to his tally of 11 Test caps when the match gets underway in Galle on 26th March having last played a Test match in 2008.

Both sides come off the back of disappointing recent series, Sri Lanka exiting the Asia Cup at the group stage and England being beaten 3-0 in a Test series in Pakistan.

With Mathews absent, Thilan Samaraweera has been appointed as Mahela Jayawardene's vice-captain.

Sri Lanka Test squad: Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Thilan Samaraweera, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Tharanga Paranavitana, Lahiru Thirimanne, Kumar Sangakkara, Chamara Silva, Dinesh Chandimal, Prasanna Jayawardene, Suranga Lakmal, Dhammika Prasad, Chanaka Welegedara, Suraj Randiv, Rangana Herath
