Sri Lankans 358-3 (Silva 152no) v
Tour game, Northampton, day one
Kaushal Silva and Lahiru Thirimanne scored unbeaten centuries as the Sri Lankans scored 358 for three on day one of their four-day tour game against Northamptonshire.
Silva was not out on 152 and Thirimanne on 120 as they shared an unbroken partnership worth 238 after Sri Lanka had been 120 for three in the afternoon session.
Against a Northamptonshire side that sits bottom of the LV= County Championship Division One table, they recovered to bat through the final session without losing a wicket.
They started poorly as Dimuth Karunaratne was caught by Kyle Coetzer off Steven Crook for one in 12 balls.
Silva and Kumar Sangakkara (28) then put on 52 for the second wicket until Sangakkara was caught by Chad Barrett off Coetzer.
After Silva reached his half-century, Mahela Jayawardene looked on course to emulate him only to become Steven Crook's second wicket when on 46.
That was the final breakthrough Northamptonshire made on the day, as Silva and Thirimanne, captaining the side as Angelo Mathews sits this game out, made their bowlers toil.
Silva faced 260 balls, hitting 21 fours and two sixes while Thirimanne, fresh from guiding his side to victory in the fifth One-Day International two days ago, hit 120 in 180 balls with 12 fours and a six.
Crook ended the day with figures of two for 74, Coetzer one for 48 with David Willey, Barrett, Graeme White and Matthew Spriegel going wicketless.
