June 15th was an exciting day for over 10 primary schools from all around Northern Ireland as this is when the Northern Ireland Asda Kwik Cricket Competition culminated in the national final taking place at Stormont Cricket Club. The Asda Kwik Cricket Competition has involved over 1,500 children in Northern Ireland this summer and teams that made it to this year’s final were Strandtown Primary, Inchmarlo and Campbell College Junior from Belfast, Woodburn from Dalkeith, Brooklands from Dundonald, Christie Memorial from Coleraine, Waringstown from Craigavon, Ponds Park from Lisburn, Downpatrick Primary, Fairview from Ballyclare and Templepatrick Primary.

After enormous effort Strandtown Primary School from Belfast became a Northern Ireland Champion and will proceed to the UK final taking place at Derby County Ground on the July 14th fighting 15 other schools from all over the country to become a UK champion.

Kwik cricket is a version of the game designed to introduce children to the game and is played by over 150,000 kids across the UK. Asda, entering their fifth year of sponsorship for the Kwik Cricket Competition, were present on the day to hand out drink and healthy snacks to young players and also provided free kwik cricket kit and T-shirts. Ryan Eagleson of the Ireland Cricket Board and organizer of the event said: ‘Big thank you to Isobel Jameson and Laura Wilson from Asda Dundonald who came down to our festival and helped enormously. It has been a great day for kids!’

Asda Kwik Cricket competition is actively supported by the Northern Ireland Cricket Team. Gary Kidd, a Craigavon local taking a break from his preparation for the Ireland Match against Australia, conducted an exclusive coaching session to promote the Asda Kwik Cricket only a day before the final at Fullerton House Primary School in Belfast.
