Northern Universities Student Club Community Cricketers Elite backed by Hilton Newcastle Gateshead today revealed they had signed a commercial partnership with Kookaburra Reader to become the clubs “Official Ball Supplier” for the 2008/9 season.

Venue: Riverside Sports Pavilion, Chester Le Street.

Established in 1890 Kookaburra now manufactures the worlds finest cricket balls in their custom built plant in Melbourne Australia.  The skills and know-how that have made Kookaburra the most widely accepted symbol for quality in the ball market in the southern hemisphere, have been applied to the manufacture and development of cricket bats and protective products since 1985

The brand enjoys the endorsement of many of the World’s leading batsmen from Hussey, Ponting to local Durham player Will Smith.  Kookaburra has never been content to go with the flow. It is the constant crusade for excellence that has driven the brand to develop innovative designs and product ranges. These have established Kookaburra as the fastest growing brand in the UK cricket market over the past twelve months making them the perfect partner for NUSC.

John D Holland, Director of Cricket for the NUSC explained why the club board had made this choice to sign with Kookaburra Reader. “The company have bowled us over by creating a custom made ball to our specification to benefit both our outstanding swing and spin bowlers.  This is unprecedented commitment from a ball manufacture and why we will be proud to use and promote the company throughout 2009”.

Neil Pullen – Cricket Ball Manager for Kookaburra “We are extremely excited to support the NUSC and look forward to being part of a successful Championship in Sunderland throughout 2009”

In a stunning upset the NUSC cricketers regained the much coveted Hilton Newcastle Gateshead Cricket Championship trophy with a 2 matches to 0 scoreline over their Irish counterparts from Leinster . Unseasonable weather ensured just two of the four scheduled matches were played although this allowed for a rare opportunity for sightseeing, indoor training at Durham CCCs ground and for a training session with the Durham CCC 1st X1 squad prior to their match with Lancashire Lightning in the Twenty20 Cup.

Northern Universities Student Club-Community Cricketers Elite (NUSC) sponsored by Hilton Newcastle Gateshead completed the final session of 2010 of their Winter Training Programme (WTP 2011) on Saturday. After the snow of the previous two weeks, the students were met by the welcome surprise of sunshine and warm conditions which certainly helped to improve their mood. It might have been the final session but that simply meant work, more work and hard work faced the players as weather delays meant two weeks work went into one.
