The charity cricketers at Northern Universities Student Club Community Cricketers Elite welcomed a surprise
guest on Saturday when Durham and England Test All Rounder Liam Plunkett joined the clubs Winter Training
Programme.

Liam who is better known as ‘Pudsey’ has been recalled to the Test Squad after a two year break and is flying out
to join the England squad in South Africa but wanted one final net session to grove his technique.
NUSC, who along with Hilton Newcastle Gateshead host a Winter Training Programme for student cricketers on a Saturday
were stunned to receive a call from an England star asking for help - it is not a request they had any intention of
turning down.

John D Holland, the clubs Director of Cricket added “It is the ultimate complement of our Winter Training
Programme that a test cricketer feels it can be beneficial to his game. Liam was a total credit to Durham and
England, putting in over an hour’s full training which helped bring out the best in our players. We hope the
session was as useful and enjoyable for Liam as it was to our members. Everyone at NUSC and our sponsors
Hilton Newcastle Gateshead wish him and England a successful test series in South Africa”

England first test with South Africa starts on Wednesday December 16th at SuperSports Park after a two match
twenty20 series and five match ODI programme spread across South Africa.

In a stunning upset the NUSC cricketers regained the much coveted Hilton Newcastle Gateshead Cricket Championship trophy with a 2 matches to 0 scoreline over their Irish counterparts from Leinster . Unseasonable weather ensured just two of the four scheduled matches were played although this allowed for a rare opportunity for sightseeing, indoor training at Durham CCCs ground and for a training session with the Durham CCC 1st X1 squad prior to their match with Lancashire Lightning in the Twenty20 Cup.

Northern Universities Student Club-Community Cricketers Elite (NUSC) sponsored by Hilton Newcastle Gateshead completed the final session of 2010 of their Winter Training Programme (WTP 2011) on Saturday. After the snow of the previous two weeks, the students were met by the welcome surprise of sunshine and warm conditions which certainly helped to improve their mood. It might have been the final session but that simply meant work, more work and hard work faced the players as weather delays meant two weeks work went into one.
