Delhi Daredevils 179-6 (Sehwag 119) beat
Deccan Chargers 175-5 (Duminy 55) by 4 wickets
Indian Premier League 2011, Hyderabad
Virender Sehwag scored a whirlwind century to guide the Delhi Daredevils to a badly needed four-wicket win over the Deccan Chargers in Hyderabad.
In pursuit of 176 to win, they slumped to 32 for three before their chances, and perhaps their Indian Premier League season as well, were revitalised by a blistering innings of 119 in 56 balls from captain Sehwag.
He took 23 runs from an over bowled by Ishant Malhotra and never looked back, going on to hit 13 fours and six sixes and although he was dismissed before the match could be won, his side got home with a full over to spare - such was the measure of Sehwag's destruction.
He reached his century with a six as he took leg-spinner Amit Mishra to pieces, the beleageured slow bowler returning figures of one for 53 while Malhotra and Bharat Chipli, who bowled one over for 20, also suffered badly.
Aaron Finch (0), Naman Ojha (7), Yalaka Venugopal Rao (3) and Travis Birt (4) all departed cheaply before Sehwag finally got some support in the shape of Irfan Pathan, who made 12, and James Hopes, who was unbeaten on 17, but he scored no fewer than 66 percent of his side's runs in the end.
Earlier, the Chargers looked well set for only their second ever victory in front of their home fans as they made 175 for five with Duminy hitting a stroke-filled 55 in 31 balls and captain Kumar Sangakkara making 44 in 36 deliveries.
Further contributions from Shikhar Dhawan (29) and Daniel Christian (27 not out) looked to have put the Chargers in control, but in the end, even their own fans were cheering Sehwag's incredible effort and Delhi now sit above the Chargers in the table with eight points.
