Sunrisers Hyderabad 184-1 (Finch 88no) beat
Delhi Daredevils 180-4 by four runs
Indian Premier Leage 2014, Dubai
The Sunrisers Hyderabad ended their wait for a first Indian Premier League 2014 victory, holding their nerve to beat the Delhi Daredevils by four runs in Dubai.
Kevin Pietersen returned from injury to lead the Daredevils, but made just 16 as his side closed on 180 for four in reply to the Sunrisers' 184 for one.
Their much-vaunted and up until this game misfiring top three came good as they batted through the innings without losing more than the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan.
He made 33 in 22 balls before Aaron Finch blasted 88 not out in 53 balls with eight fours and four sixes while David Warner ended not out on 58 in 45 balls with three fours and three sixes.
Dhawan fell when he was caught by Pietersen off Shahbaz Nadeem but Delhi made no other breakthroughs, and missed chances in the field.
They were later made to pay for them as despite their openers Murali Vijay (52 in 40 balls) and Quinton de Kock (48 in 30) getting off to a flyer, they closed short.
The pair put on 99 before de Kock was dismissed by Karan Sharma and Vijay by Darren Sammy within an over of each other.
That set the Daredevils back and they were further inconvenienced when Dale Steyn (2-33) had Pietersen caught by Sammy and Dinesh Karthik (15) caught by KL Rahul.
JP Duminy hit 20 not out in seven balls and Manoj Tiwary 23 in 13 balls, including 15 from the final over, bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, but it proved to be too little, too late.
