Surrey have re-signed Australian fast-bowler Dirk Nannes for their 2012 Friends Life t20 campaign.

The 35 year-old also represented the Lions last season and proved popular with their players, management and supporters.

Surrey Director of Cricket Chris Adams said: “As we saw last season in the shortest form of the game, Dirk is still one of the most consistently dangerous and economical bowlers on the world scene. He did a fantastic job for us and I can speak for the whole club when I say we are delighted to welcome him back for another spell.”

Nannes has become something of a short-form specialist in recent years – he hasn’t played a first-class match since 2009 – and has represented 11 different sides during his Twenty20 career. Indeed, since playing for Surrey in last season’s Friends Life t20, where he took 19 wickets at an average of 20.05, the left-armer has played for the Mountaineers in Zimbabwe’s domestic T20 competition, and for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League.

He owes much of his success to his accuracy, left-arm angle and toe-crushing yorkers – all delivered at a good pace – and has taken a record T20 total of 169 wickets at an average of 20.89 throughout his 135-match career; including a best of five for 40 against Middlesex in last year’s Friends Life t20 competition.

Nannes completes Surrey's quota of Twenty20 overseas signings for 2012 following the club's signing of Indian left-arm spinner Murali Kartik at the end of last year.
