Sussex have confirmed they have signed Irish fast bowler Craig Young on an Academy Plus contract for the 2010 season.
The 19-year-old starred in the ICC Under-19 World Cup, taking nine wickets at an average of 18.44 and he had already came to Sussex's attention when taking five for 22 in the European Under-19 Championships for Ireland against Guernsey in Jersey.
Sussex then invited him to Dubai for a training camp and he will now divide his team between Ireland and Sussex in the coming season.
“We first saw Craig last summer when we asked him to come and play for our second team," Cricket Performance Manager Keith Greenfield said.
"We wanted to have a look at Craig, so we invited him to our training camp in Dubai. During that time, we saw he had potential, so we have offered him a place on the Academy Plus scheme and we’ll see him in six blocks throughout the summer. This will help his cricket and will act as a stepping stone to attaining a professional contract.”
