Sussex have signed Australian all-rounder Damien Wright as their overseas player for the first part of the season to cover for the absence of Yasir Arafat, who has been called up to play for Pakistan against Australia in the United Arab Emirates.

The former Tasmania, Northamptonshire and Glamorgan player played in the 2008/9 Sheffield Shield with champions Victoria, taking 24 wickets at 28.50 and finishing with 282 runs at 31.33.

Mark Robinson, Professional Cricket Manager, said: “Damien’s an experienced campaigner and has had an outstanding season with Victoria this year.  I’m sure he will fit seamlessly in to the team and we’re excited about his arrival.”

Sussex begin their county season with a Friends Provident Trophy match against Gloucestershire on 19th April in Bristol and their opening LV County Championship match pits them against former coach Peter Moores and Lancashire at Hove on 21st April.
