The Brit Oval Strengthens Board
The appointments were announced by the Club’s Chairman David Stewart and Chief Executive Paul Sheldon, and represent a streamlining of the Club’s senior management structure.
The newly created role of Group Commercial Director has been taken on by Zac Toumazi, with Clive Stephens being brought in as Operations Director. Both will report into Sheldon.
Toumazi expands his previous role as Managing Director of Oval Events, the official supplier of hospitality, conferences and events at the ground. He has lead the company since its creation in 2005, overseeing a business that has grown to record a turnover of almost £11 million in 2007. Toumazi’s revised remit now comprises all commercial activity across the Club, including sponsorship, ticketing, conferences & events and hospitality.
Clive Stephens arrives at Surrey County Cricket Club with an impressive track record in major operational roles. Before joining the club, Clive was General Manager of Mercedez-Benz World at Brooklands near Weybridge. Prior to that, he worked for Alton Towers, developing some of its most famous rides. He has also worked in Dubai as the General Manager of the Emirate’s first theme park. Clive is responsible for all operational aspects of The Brit Oval outside of catering and hospitality. He will be responsible for the smooth running of match days which often attract in excess of 23,000 visitors.
Commenting on the appointments, Chief Executive of Surrey County Cricket Club, Paul Sheldon said “As a commercial operation, Surrey leads the way in the County game and by appointing individuals of the calibre that we have, we are ensuring that we can both consolidate this leadership position and grow our business in other areas.
Zac Toumazi has proven himself to be an excellent managing director of Oval Events with the company’s growth record in its short history speaking for itself. Meanwhile Clive Stephens brings a wealth of experience gained outside cricket but in major visitor attractions that will enable us to offer the best possible match-day experience and maintain our position as one of the world’s leading sporting venues.”
