New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill will miss the final One-Day International and then all three Tests against England to undergo an operation on his injured thumb.
He will go under the knife next week to repair ligament damage to his left thumb, an injury he picked up earlier in the series.
He would not have been available for Saturday's deciding match in any case due to a hamstring strain he suffered during the first match, which New Zealand won by three wickets.
"We felt it was best to get Martin right for the tour to England in May and June, so the next couple of months were seen as the best window to have the surgery," physiotherapist Paul Close said.
Hamish Rutherford was earlier this week added to the ODI squad as cover.
