Tim Philips has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him with Essex until the end of the 2010 season, the 28-year-old set to embark on his 12th season next year.

He earnt his county cap in 2006, scoring 176 runs in 12 matches in al competitions and picking up 20 wickets including 12 in eight NatWest Pro40 appearances.

Essex coach Paul Grayson said: "This is obviously good news, Tim is a valuable member of our playing squad, he enjoyed a full season in 2009. When he is fit he gives good contributions throughout a campaign. I know Tim is looking for a big season in 2010, he will be spending this winter in Cape Town, we are confident he will come back fit and strong and make a big impact on our Division I campaign."
