Hampshire Hoping Afridi Can Still Feature

Hampshire have confirmed that Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi will not be available for the start of the Friends Life t20 competition but they are pushing hard to retain his services. Afridi has had his No Objection Certificate (NOC) revoked by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after he announced his decision to retire from international cricket.

Hampshire Link Up With Barbados Tourism Authority

Hampshire Cricket is pleased to announce that their shirt sponsor for the 2011 Friends Life t20 campaign is the Barbados Tourism Authority. The deal means the Barbados Tourism Authority becomes Official Twenty20 Shirt Sponsor and Travel Partner to Hampshire Cricket and The Rose Bowl. The Royals, therefore, will feature the "Visit Barbados" logo on the team’s new yellow T20 shirt.

Myburgh An Injury Concern For Hampshire

Hampshire will wait on the fitness of Johann Myburgh as they prepare to host local rivals Sussex in a key LV= County Championship match at The Rose Bowl from 4th May. Youngster Benny Howell has been drafted into the matchday squad and a decision on Myburgh's participation will be made on the morning of the match.

Jones And Pothas Return For Hampshire

Hampshire will be able to call upon fit-again fast bowler Simon Jones and wicket-keeper Nic Pothas when they take on Somerset in their LV= County Championship match from 27th April at The Rose Bowl. Jones took four wickets in Hampshire's opening Clydesdale Bank fixture against Warwickshire having suffered a groin injury earlier in the season while Pothas returns having been ruled out with a groin problem.

Hampshire cricketers James Tomlinson and David Griffiths have taken part in a pre-season coaching session with the Hampshire Elite Disability Cricketers at The Rose Bowl. James and David put the Hampshire Disability Players through their paces ahead of the team’s first game against Essex on May 8th as their Hampshire team mates took part in their first day of the First XI’s friendly against Bradford/Leeds UCCE.

Rose Bowl To Increase Capacity For England-India ODI

The Rose Bowl will increase its capacity to more than 20,000 for the One-Day International between England and India on 6th September following unprecedented demand for tickets. An extra 7000 seats will be added in time for the match, which despite being almost six months away, has almost sold out and fans are being urged to book early to avoid disappointment.

Cork Takes On Hampshire Captaincy Full-Time

All-rounder Dominic Cork will captain Hampshire this season after the club revealed that Dimitri Mascarenhas is unlikely to be available for the start of the new season. Cork stood in and captained the side to the Friends Provident t20 title in 2010 following injuries to Mascarenhas and Nic Pothas and following him signing a one-year contract to stay at The Rose Bowl, he has now been appointed as club captain.

Ervine And McKenzie Extend Hampshire Stays

Hampshire pair Sean Ervine and Neil McKenzie have signed extensions to their contracts, which will see Ervine remain at The Rose Bowl unti the end of the 2013 season and McKenzie play again this summer. Ervine recently turned down the chance to play in the Cricket World Cup for Zimbabwe after he was picked in their 15-man squad, instead deciding to remain with Hampshire.

Hampshire's Zimbabwean all-rounder Sean Ervine has decided against returning to play for his country and will instead continue to represent Hampshire. Ervine had been named in Zimbabwe's 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup in Asia, but has now changed his mind and will remain at Hampshire as a non-overseas player.

Hampshire have signed South African international fast bowler Friedel de Wet on a Kolpak contract for the 2011 season as they continue to bolster their squad. De Wet played two Tests for South Africa against England in 2009, taking six wickets at 31 apiece at Centurion Park and Newlands, Cape Town.

Hampshire have signed South African-born batsman Johann Myburgh for the 2011 domestic cricket season. The batsman is slated to travel with the team to the West Indies for the Caribbean T-20 tournament from 10th–23rd January and Myburgh will be available for selection in all forms of the game.

Liam Dawson Extends Hampshire Contract

Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson has extended his association with Hampshire by signing a new two-year extension of his contract. The deal will allow him to represent the club until 2012. The Swindon-born 20-year-old, who bowls left-arm orthodox spin made eight first-class appearances for Hampshire last season, making 348 runs. He also contributed to both limited-overs competitions, scoring nearly 200 runs as Hampshire won the Friends Provident t20 competition.
