New Zealand Name Two Newcomers In ICC WT20 Squad

New Zealand have named their 30-man preliminary squad for the ICC World Twenty20, including uncapped players Anaru Kitchen and George Worker. Kitchen is a left-arm spinner while Worker is a left-hand batsman and there is no place in the squad for powerful all-rounder Jesse Ryder.

Pakistan Name 30-Man Preliminary ICC WT20 Squad

Pakistan have named a 30-man provisional squad for the 2012 ICC World Twenty20, leaving out current Test and One-Day International captain Misbah-ul-Haq. Misbah played a key role during Pakistan's run to the final in 2007 but no longer features for the Twenty20 side, Mohammad Hafeez being named as captain earlier this year.

England And India Get Close To ICC WT20 Trophy

England captain Charlotte Edwards and her Indian counterpart Mithali Raj got their hands on the ICC Women's World Twenty20 trophy ahead of their T20 match at Canterbury. Both players would love to lift the trophy for good later this year and Edwards has already held it, after England won the inaugural tournament on home soil in 2009.

Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has made himself available for the ICC World Twenty20 2012, which gets underway in Sri Lanka in September. Vettori had previously announced he was taking a break from limited overs cricket but the lure of another global tournament has proved hard to resist.

Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh has targeted the ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka in September as a possible comeback following his recovery from cancer. Yuvraj was diagnosed with lung cancer after he helped India win the 2011 World Cup but after undergoing chemotherapy in America, is slowly making a return to full fitness.

Malinga Chosen As ICC WT20 2012 Ambassador

Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has been chosen as the official event ambassador for the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 event by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The fourth edition of the tournament will be hosted in Sri Lanka between 18th September and 7th October.

Nearly 25 percent of available tickets for the first phase of the ICC World Twenty20 2012, held in Sri Lanka later this year, have already been sold. Since tickets went on sale globally last week, an average of 10,000 per day have been snapped up by fans eager to see their teams in action.

ICC WT20 2012 Tickets Go On Sale Globally

The global sale of tickets for the ICC World Twenty20 2012 Sri Lanka began at 9am GMT this morning with demand expected to be high for the first ICC World Twenty20 to be held in Asia. A maximum of four tickets can be purchased by each person for the super eights, semi-finals and finals, and a maximum of six tickets per person for the rest of the matches.

ICC World Twenty20 Ticket Launch Fast Approaching

The ICC World Twenty20 2012 ticket launch will take place at the Galle Face Green on Saturday 24 March 18.30 (Colombo time) with His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, the President of Sri Lanka, purchasing the very first ticket of the tournament. The launch will also feature the ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat as well as representatives from both the Sri Lankan men’s and women’s cricket teams, popular musicians, dance acts and dignitaries, including Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, the Minister for Sports in Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Cricket president Upali Dharmadasa.

ICC Announce World T20 Qualifying Tournament Structure

The ICC has announced the dates and format of the qualifying tournament for the 2012 World Twenty 20, which will be held in Sri Lanka in September. The 16-team event will begin in the UAE on 13th March, and encompass five different grounds in three different emirates, before coming to its conclusion in a tournament final on 24th March in Dubai.
