Sports surface specialist total-play Ltd has been appointed by Calmore Sport’s Cricket Club to upgrade its facilities following the club’s receipt of a £25,000 grant courtesy of Sport England’s Inspired Facilities initiative.

Part of the £135 million Places People Play legacy programme, the funding is aimed at bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country. When completed, like all facilities funded by the programme, Calmore’s new non turf cricket facilities will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark; celebrating its link to the 2012 games.

The project will see total-play replace an existing two lane non-turf practice system, which has been in-situ for over 10 years, with a brand new, fully carpeted 2-lane 27m open system built to total-play’s tp365 ECB-approved design. Meanwhile, the existing cricket table will also be upgraded to include a 30m x 2.74m non-turf match pitch, also using the ECB-approved tp365 system.

The Southern Electric Premier League club, which is based at Loperwood Park in Southampton, sees the developments as key to its drive to encourage more youngsters to take up membership, as Calmore Sports chairman Peter Lavelle explains:

“We are delighted to secure this Inspired Facilities grant, which will enable us to create a practice facility that will help us grow the youth section of our club and get more young people actively participating in our sport.”

Club Captain, Darren Vann, explains why total-play Ltd was chosen to carry out the works:

"Calmore Sports chose total-play because we wanted to ensure the best quality facility for our members. We felt the total-play product with its features including the protection tunnel, one piece surface carpet and concrete kerbing offered a high quality product that stood out, even amongst the other ECB approved suppliers."

With work is about to commence on the project at Calmore, sport clubs across the country have another opportunity to take advantage of the Inspired Places initiative, as Sport England recently released its latest raft of funding. total-play, with its vast experience of helping to secure funding for schemes is more than happy to advise and support clubs in their bids; whether the project is natural or non-turf, cricket or winter sports.

Souters Sports were awarded the contract, following a competitive tendering process, in early 2012 with work starting in June including the construction of two new artificial cricket wickets and four new natural cricket wickets.
Cricket playing surface specialist total-play Ltd has noticed a marked rise in the number of non-turf match pitches it has been commissioned to design and install. The trend has seen clients ranging from village and league clubs through to schools, local authorities and other organisations opt to install what is a versatile, cost-effective addition to their facilities.
When Saltwood CC was approached by Hythe Green CC to host its league matches for the 2013 season, the committee was happy to help out another club. However, with two home matches scheduled at the ground every weekend the club now has two wickets to protect. Having purchased a total-play Ltd developed Climate Cover System last year, this tried and tested solution was the natural choice
Leicester based synthetic sports surfacing company Dura-Sport has seen sales of their ECB Approved DSi-pro cricket system take off at a rapid pace. The synthetic pitch system, available to cricket clubs, schools, colleges and universities for either match play or practice, only received approval by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in December of 2012, yet Dura-Sport has just installed their 25th non-turf cricket project of the year...
Headland Amenity's Multigreen fertiliser range has brought about a dramatic change on the hardworking playing fields of an Oxfordshire school. When Rob Eason took over as Head of Grounds at Dragon School, a co-educational private school for 8 -13 year olds, the turf on the sportsfield was struggling.
