England and Surrey fast bowler Chris Tremlett has undergone back surgery in London, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed.

Tremlett had to return home early from England's tour of the United Arab Emirates after a scan revealed a bulging disc in his back.

He is not expected to return to cricket for at least two months and the ECB medical team will liaise with Surrey to determine a likely date for him to start bowling again.

Tremlett has played 11 Tests and 15 One-Day Internationals for England although since he took the wicket that sealed a 3-1 Ashes series win in Sydney in 2011, has struggled with back injuries.
