Marcus Trescothick has been named in Somerset's 15-man squad to travel to India to compete in the Twenty20 Champions League in October.

It is understood that Trescothick, who has been unable to travel abroad due to a stress-related illness in recent years, will be based in the United Arab Emirates and effectively 'commute' to matches.

Youngster Jos Buttler has been named in the squad as back-up to wicket-keeper Craig Kieswetter and with Somerset still in contention for domestic glory in the LV County Championship and the NatWest Pro40, coach Andy Hurry is in optimistic mood:

“This is an exceptional opportunity for our players to perform on the world stage," he said.

"Winning the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 would be a tremendous end to our season.”

Somerset face Deccan Chargers and Trinidad & Tobago in the initial group stage.
