Troughton Gets 2013 Benefit Year With The Bears

Warwickshire County Cricket Club has today announced that long-serving and Championship winning captain, Jim Troughton will be awarded a Benefit Year in 2013.

 

The 33 year old has been affiliated with the Club since the age of 11. He made his First Class debut for the Bears in 2001 and has enjoyed great success with the Club, winning the Benson & Hedges Cup in 2002, the County Championship in 2004, the Clydesdale Bank 40-Over Competition in 2010 and led the team to Championship glory  in 2012.

 

 
Commenting on the news, Troughton said: "I am extremely proud to have been associated with Warwickshire County Cricket Club for the last 20 years. It's been a childhood dream come true to be captain of the Club and I am delighted to have been awarded a benefit.

 

"Winning the County Championship this season has been a fantastic achievement and one I will cherish for the rest of my life.

 

"I've played with many outstanding players during my time with the club, and the current squad has great potential to dominate County cricket over the years to come. I hope I can continue to lead the them to even more success in 2013."

 

Ashley Giles, Director of Cricket at Warwickshire CCC, said: "Jim Troughton has been a fantastic servant and a great ambassador for Warwickshire cricket since joining the professional staff in 2001.

 

"Being awarded a benefit year in 2013 is just reward for his hard work and dedication to the Club.

 

"Well liked and hugely respected, Jim represents everything we stand for at Warwickshire and his leadership of the side was instrumental in bringing home the Bears' seventh LV County Championship title in its history.  I wish Jim a hugely successful 2013 both on and off the field."

 

 

Jim's Benefit Launch Ball event will be held at Edgbaston's fantastic banqueting suite on Saturday 2nd March 2013, hosting stars from the cricket and acting world. For information please Contact tony@underthepostsltd.co.uk

Warwickshire CCC have signed Ian Blackwell on a one-month loan deal from Durham. Blackwell will join up with the Bears at Wormsley for this Sunday's (19 August) CB40 fixture against the Unicorns, and will remain with the team until the end of the season.
