ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier Group B, Abu Dhabi
The United Arab Emirates opened their ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier campaign with a 15-run win over Kenya in Abu Dhabi. Batting first, they posted 165 for five before Kenya were restricted to 150 for five.
Arfan Haider top scored for the home side with 59 in 44 balls from the top of the order, hitting five fours and two sixes and he was backed up by innings of 31 by Saqib Ali, 28 in 19 balls by Khurram Khan and 20 in 12 balls by fellow opener Mohammad Iqbal.
Lameck Onyango and Nelson Odhiambo both picked up two wickets to keep Kenya in contention.
In-form opener David Obuya was then dismissed for nine as Kenya made a poor start to their run chase but 25 in 19 balls from Steve Tikolo and 13 from Alex Obanda helped them rebuild before Shadeep Silva had both dismissed leg before.
Maurice Ouma thumped 39 in 37 balls and David Obuya was unbeaten on 42 in 31 deliveries but Kenya fell short, Ahmed Raza also taking two for 17.
Kenya next take on Canada while the UAE will play the Netherlands in their next game.
