Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul will miss the rest of the Asia Cup because of a rib cage muscle injury, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed has confirmed.

"Gul has been advised to rest for 10 days to two weeks so he won't be playing the remaining part of the tournament," Ahmed said.

"Gul complained of pain in his rib muscles and scans showed there is a problem for which he needs a rest," he added.

Gul left the field of play after delivering just 14 balls in the match between Pakistan and India, which India went on to win by four wickets in Karachi.

"It is hurting and is very uncomfortable at the moment. I hope it is not serious," Gul explained.

Pakistan have not yet named a replacement with left-armer Wahab Riaz likely to take his place in the starting eleven for their first match in the Super Fours, against Sri Lanka in two day's time, also in Karachi.

India and Bangladesh are the other two teams still competing.
