Bat4Africa Launches Unique Cricket Bat With All Profits Donated To Street Child Africa

Not-for-profit cricket organisation Bat4Africa has launched a specially designed cricket bat and pledged to donate all profits from its sales to help raise funds for Street Child Africa, a charity that works with local partner organisations in sub-Saharan Africa to support children in street situations.

A British founded project, Bat4Africa has had a top-quality cricket bat manufactured at cost price and will donate all profits from its sales to Street Child Africa. In the run-up to the summer, and with The Ashes series coming to England, the bat is available to buy until 31st June 2013 from www.bat4africa.com, and will retail at £250 with a minimum of £80 from each bat sold being donated to the cause.

The money raised by the initiative will be used by Street Child Africa to help take children away from the dangers of the street, providing them with support and fostering skills and learning as well as supplying items such as shoes, uniform and a bag for school. Through funding twelve grassroots organisations in eight countries the charity is able to improve the lives and long-term prospects of children in poverty-stricken regions.

The bat, made to a single ‘hybrid’ shape and handcrafted from grade one English willow, is pressed to ensure the optimum balance between durability and performance. Combining English manufacturing with African artwork the bat also features labelling created by UK designer Marcus Charman to capture the vibrancy of African culture.

Charlie Munton, founder of Bat4Africa, said: “We have looked to utilise the margin from sales of a fabulous, expertly designed bat to help disadvantaged children in Africa.

"With the Ashes this summer we saw an opportunity to sell a top-quality product and raise much needed funds. The money from this project will go a long way to changing these children’s lives."

Anthony Morton-King, Executive Director at Street Child Africa, said: "Street Child Africa steps in to support children who are on their own. Children on the streets are vulnerable with no shelter and no responsible adult to help.  Most have escaped to the streets because of extreme poverty, serious illness or death of a parent and family breakdown.

"The profit donated from Bat4Africa will be given to Street Child Africa so that street children are not alone and have an opportunity to be safe, learn and find joy again. When you purchase your Bat4Africa bat you will helping us to make this happen."
