Sussex have confirmed that South Africa fast bowler Vernon Philander will remain on the sidelines for two to three weeks after sustaining a groin injury during the recently concluded County Championship match against Kent.
The 31-year-old managed to bowl 17 overs in the first innings where he finished wicketless and came to bat at number 10 and scored 13 runs from 12 deliveries.
His absence in the second innings was felt as Kent piled on 413 for five before the declaration came and ensured a 226-run victory in the game.
A statement released by the board confirmed that Philander will return to South Africa to undergo the rehabilitation process and is expected to join the club in the middle of June.
Philander had a tough away Test series against New Zealand as well where he managed to pick just two wickets from three matches and was eventually dropped out of the Champions Trophy squad of South Africa.
