Experienced New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori has been named as the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the fourth season of the Indian Premier League, which gets underway on 8th April.

Vettori, who led New Zealand with distinction since 2007, replaces Anil Kumble, who decided against making himself available for this season's IPL, as skipper as the franchise bids to go one better than their performance in 2009, when they reached the final. bet365 make them 6/1 to do so.

Kumble, who will now take on a role as Chief Mentor to the team, said of the appointment:

"Vettori is a hugely respected professional not only within his team but amongst his international peers as well. His unique ability to get players to perform as a unit and deliver more than just the sum of their parts, as he has done time and again with New Zealand, will be a big asset to any team."

Vettori heads into the tournament fresh from leading New Zealand to the semi-finals of the World Cup and previously represented the Delhi Daredevils in the first three editions of the tournament.
