In the summer of 2013 we welcomed ex England and Somerset spinner Vic Marks to Lewin Road.
Tickets were sold to members and guests, the lounge being full to brimming, and everyone enjoyed a curry and more than the odd beer before listening to Vic talk about his exploits in his playing career and, more recently, during his time with Test Match Special.
We then had a question and answer session with Vic sharing a mix of humorous and touching tales regarding times spent with Sir Ian Botham, Sir Vivian Richards and Joel Garner.
The evening was rounded off with an auction of sporting memorabilia, kindly donated by club members and local businesses.
The result of this, together with bar and ticket sales was in excess of £2000 raised for club funds.
A fantastic evening was had by all, so much so that last week, Vic emailed us the following message;
"Greetings from Chittagong, where the curries are nowhere near as good as the one I enjoyed at Great Oakley CC last summer.
"It was a very enjoyable evening and even then I got the impression that the club was going places.
"Congratulations on your success in 2013 and I hope 2014 is even better.
"All the best
