Australia captain Michael Clarke accepts that his side go into the five-match Ashes series in England in the unusual situation of being the underdogs.
"I've said for a while now we come here as underdogs, there's no doubt about that," Clarke said at his pre-match press conference at Trent Bridge.
"But that hasn't affected our preparation and it won't effect our performance either. We're looking forward to a tough series. We know it's going to be tough, but I know all the boys are up for the challenge."
Clarke has battled through injury problems which ruled him out of the Champions Trophy and Australia sacked Mickey Arthur, replacing him with Darren Lehmann before the series.
Australia warmed up with a comfortable win over Somerset and a drawn game against Worcestershire, in which both Clarke and Shane Watson scored centuries.
