As England moved in a new direction with Alastair Cook continuing as captain and Peter Moores returning as coach, there was no room for Pietersen, who has subsequently been in action for the Delhi Daredevils, the Rest of the World and Surrey.
Now, as he prepares to play for the St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League, speaking to BT Sport in an exclusive interview to promote its coverage of the Caribbean Premier League T20 tournament, he says that he would love to play for England again.
"I’d love to play for England again but we might just have to wait for a few things to change before that could possibly happen," he says.
"So to avenge what’s happened over the last 6 to 12 months and also pick up a World Cup in between would be what dreams are made of, but that would just be being greedy," he added.
"You just asked me what would be my ideal, that would be my ideal. Who knows, it might happen."
