England captain Alastair Cook says that only two players during his side's 5-0 Ashes defeat to Australia - Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes - showed the form they are capable of.
Stokes came into the side after Jonathan Trott returned home and scored a maiden century in Perth and then took six wickets in the first innings in Sydney.
Broad, meanwhile, finished the series as England's leading wicket-taker and was one of England's only lower order batsmen to take the fight to Australia's bowling attack.
"We have just got to go back to basics and do it," Cook said.
"I'm never going to feel let down by players, every person there will feel like they've been let themselves down because we haven't performed.
"You know, it's probably only Broady and Stokesy who've delivered close to their potential so I think everyone else will be hurting."
