Sri Lanka lost out in the match of the tournament when New Zealand beat them by one wicket in dramatic circumstances in their Champions Trophy 2013 opener, and Lahiru Thirimanne knows that he and his fellow batsmen need to improve in their remaining matches.
Next up for the 2007 and 2011 World Cup runners-up is their Group A match against England at The Oval on Thursday (13th June), and Thirimanne says that morale in the squad is good
He says that the bowlers did a superb job to get them as close to victory as they managed against New Zealand but that it is now up to the batsmen, himself included, to put more runs on the board.
"I need to handle the situation much better next time, so I had a good chance but couldn't capitalise," he says.
Thirimanne, who has played 40 One-Day Internationals, was run out for nine before Sri Lanka were dismissed for 138.
