Warwickshire CCC AGM 2012

Almost 300 members attended Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 22nd February.

 

The meeting began with the presentation of the awards with County XI inscribed tankers being presented to Varun Chopra for batting, Boyd Rankin for bowling and Chris Woakes and Rikki Clarke winning the all-rounder award. Rikki Clarke was also presented with a special award after he equalled the First-Class record of seven catches for an outfielder in an innings against Lancashire at Liverpool. The Peter Cranmer Award for the most improved Second XI Player was presented to Chris Metters.

 

All the County age-groups for both boys and girls were represented at the ceremony with the youth trophies presented by the Club President, the Rt Hon Earl of Aylesford. The Coney Edmonds Trophy for Under 19s was presented to Academy member Jack Cornick, the Cyril Goodwin (WOCCA) Trophy for Under 17s presented to Jack Grundy (also Academy) and the Graham Williamson Memorial Award for Under 15s presented to Matthew Clements.

 

Club Chairman Norman Gascoigne reviewed what’s been a very busy 2011 for Warwickshire CC, with the completion of the £32 million Pavilion Stand, and reiterated the Club's desire to continue focussing on home-grown and English-qualified players. Additionally Treasurer, Steven Mills presented the accounts to the year ending 30 September 2011.

 

Warwickshire Director of Cricket Ashley Giles and Captain Jim Troughton also reported very positively on the progress of the squad during the 2011 and through their training programme during the winter. They head off to Barbados for the annual preseason tour on 13th March.

Warwickshire CCC have signed Ian Blackwell on a one-month loan deal from Durham. Blackwell will join up with the Bears at Wormsley for this Sunday's (19 August) CB40 fixture against the Unicorns, and will remain with the team until the end of the season.
