Warwickshire CCC Launches 125 Club
Fittingly, the scheme has been launched in the Club’s 125th Anniversary year and is aimed to raise over £125,000 from local businesses to support the development of youth cricket via the Warwickshire Cricket Board.
Patrons of the new scheme are Dennis Amiss MBE, Ian Bell OBE, Gladstone Small OBE and Wasim Khan who all developed their successful playing careers through the youth set up at Edgbaston.
A member of the 125 Club will receive two hospitality tickets for both the summer’s NatWest One Day Internationals, an exclusive 125 evening with the patrons and other members and will have their name inscribed on an official 125 honours board positioned in the Edgbaston Cricket Centre.
Dennis Amiss fully supports the project, “Youth Cricket has always been very important at the Club so to have a specific programme that provides funding to the game at grass roots level will help the development of new stars of the future.”
Ian Bell, speaking from the West Indies, was privileged to be asked to become a patron, “I owe my career to Warwickshire so I’m thrilled to be asked to front such a great idea. When I was a young boy coming into Edgbaston to be coached by, my mentor, Neal Abberley I always dreamed I would play at the highest level and now I am it lives up to all my expectations. All I can say to the young kids is believe in yourself and try to improve everyday.”
Commercial Director, James McLaughlin, believes the scheme has great potential, “It is an opportunity for the local business community to become involved with such a prestigious Club for as little as £1,000 and we hope to build further relationship with local firms in and around the city through this initiative. The funds raised by the scheme will go directly to development of young players and as little as £4,000 can fund a specialist spin clinic and £20,000 will allow us to purchase a brand new state of the art bowling machine for the Edgbaston Cricket Centre. “
