Warwickshire Youth Making Their Mark
The Warwickshire CCC age group sides have been in limited action this summer due to the bad weather but many have been rewarded for their performances by being selected in various regional and national squads.
Chris Woakes has been named in the England under 19 squad who will face Pakistan in two Test Matches starting on 4th August.
Calum MacLeod has been action in the European Under 19 World Cup Qualifier being the pick of the Scottish bowlers taking 4-36 and smashing 21 off 12 balls.
Paul Best and Tom Lewis, who are both members of the Warwickshire Academy, have been selected in the ECB Regional XI who will play a series of matches at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough.
Jonathan Webb and Ateeq Javid were both selected in the Midlands Under 15 side while Tom Milnes and Liam Gateley have been named in the Midlands Under 14 side. Jamie Klapper makes the Under 13 side to complete the set.
In the women’s game, Warwickshire Cricket Development Manager, Kelly Evenson has been selected to play for the England ‘A’ side against New Zealand in a Twenty20 competition this August.
Helen Shipman, Laura Crofts, Rebecca Weller, Kirsty Marsh and Isobelle Watson have all been selected for the Under 19’s Midland Women’s Regional side.
Richard Cox, Warwickshire Director of Cricket, has been delighted with all the call-ups, “It has been great to see so many of our youngsters be rewarded for their efforts. We have a high level of representation in both the regional and national squads and very year we look for build on this pushing our youngsters to the next level.”
In addition to this our connections in to Europe have seen Shane Getkate and James Hall make the Irish Under 19 side whilst Academy Retainer Getkate scored 39no v Holland in the Under 15 ECC Championships. Interestingly featuring for Denmark is Tom Brown the Warwickshire Under 14 Off spinner who also scored 27 v Scotland.
Finally the Age group teams have all qualified for the ECB Quarter Finals at Under 13 14 15 and most notably the Warwickshire Women’s side were Liverpool Victoria County Champions (Division 3) last week and will be promoted to Division 2 for 2008. This represents 3 trophies in 2 years for this team and 2 successive promotions – some feat!
