Wavell Hinds Signs For Derbyshire

Derbyshire have announced the signing of experienced West Indian batsman Wavell Hinds as a non-overseas player for the 2008 season.

Hinds has signed a one-year deal and the veteran of 45 test matches and 114 one-day internationals will play as a Kolpak player.

Hinds has captained Jamaica in the past and has some 7,119 first class runs to his name, with his medium pace also a useful option.

Head of Cricket John Morris said: “It is terrific news for Derbyshire that we have been able to add a player of Wavell’s quality and experience to our squad for 2008.

“Wavell has plenty of experience in both the test and one-day international arena and he has proven ability in scoring runs at the highest level. That is exactly what I was looking for in a Kolpak player.”

Chairman Don Amott said: “Wavell Hinds is another great addition and it is great to see that our squad for 2008 is really taking shape.

“John Morris has been working very hard to recruit quality players to take the club forward and now we are seeing the fruits of his labour.”
