Wellington have announced the signing of England international Owais Shah, confirming that the Middlesex and Delhi Daredevils batsman will be playing in their forthcoming State Twenty20 campaign.
Shah played during England's 2007 and 2009 ICC World Twenty20 campaigns and has played 55 Twenty20 matches in all, 17 of them coming at international level.
He has also played in six Tests and 60 One-Day Internationals since 2001.
“I am very pleased with this signing, and I’m sure Owais will win a number of T20 matches for us with the bat," Wellington CEO Gavin Larsen told New Zealand Cricket's website.
"His vast cricketing experience and tactical appreciation of T20 cricket will also see him provide vital leadership alongside our experienced Firebirds.
"Already there is a buzz around town about domestic T20 next summer. With our BLACKCAPS including Ryder, Patel, Franklin, O'Brien, and Elliott all available, complemented with this excellent signing of Owais Shah, it augers well for plenty of exciting T20 action on the Basin Reserve.”
