Legendary batsman Desmond Haynes has been appointed as batting consultant to the West Indies team for the upcoming international series against Pakistan.
He has been with the side during their preparation for the summer, which gets underway on 21st April with a Twenty20 International against the losing World Cup semi-finalists. Bookmakers offer 1/2 that Pakistan win the game with the West Indies at 13/8.
"I have always said I wanted to be involved in West Indies cricket and help in any way I could," Haynes said.
"This is a chance to help the young players with their development. I just want to see the players get better as we aim for improvement at all levels in West Indies cricket and get the team back to the halcyon days.
"I am happy to be part of the Team Management Unit, headed by Ottis, and I believe I can also help the players with the mental aspect of their game and the way they go about their cricket in general. This is a chance to make a contribution and I’m pleased to be given the opportunity to be involved in West Indies cricket once more."
Haynes played 116 Test matches, during which he scored 7,487 runs at 42.29, also playing 228 One-Day Internationals, scoring 8,648 runs at 42.37 and in all, he stroked 35 international centuries.
He also has a strong coaching pedigree having worked with, among others, Jacques Kallis, Herschelle Gibbs and Dwayne Bravo.
