35-year-old Somerset left-arm seam bowler Charl Willoughby has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

Willoughby, capped twice in Tests and three times in One-Day Internationals by South Africa, has now received British citizenship and moved to Somerset in 2006 from Leicestershire.

He has taken over 260 first-class wickets for Somerset and although he has not featured prominently in one-day cricket, Somerset are keen to keep him at the club.

"We would have been very reluctant to lose a guy of that quality particularly in first-class cricket," director of cricket Brian Rose told the club's website (www.somersetcountycc.premiumtv.co.uk).

"I know he hasn't played a huge amount of one-day cricket for us this year but in one way that will keep his career going."

"His fitness is good and his diet is good. He has a family life so he hasn't put pounds on and we look forward to him playing the next two years."
