The latest matches in the Indian Premier League saw wins for the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians over the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Deccan Chargers respectively.
In Kolkata, the home side were narrowly denied when rain prematurely ended the contest between the Knight Riders and the Super Kings. Batting first, the Kolkata side hit 149 for five thanks to Salman Butt hitting 73 from 54 balls, although Makhaya Ntini's four for 21 ensured the Super Kings were still in the game.
After eight overs of the reply, Stephen Fleming (32) and Parthiv Patel (19) had moved their side on to 55 without loss, which was deemed enough to win by just three runs.
Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, home side the Deccan Chargers were comfortably beaten by the Mumbai Indians. Batting first, the Mumbai side helped themselves to 178 for seven, Abhishek Nayar hitting 38 from 24 deliveries having earned himself a promotion and the ever-dangerous Sanath Jayasuriya hitting 36 from 15. RP Singh took three for 35 to keep them in check.
The Chargers reply lost its way with early wickets and despite the best efforts of Yalaka Venugopal Rao (57) and Dharaka Ravi Teja (37), the Indians had enough in hand, Dwayne Bravo picking up three for 24 and Dilhara Fernando two for 38.
