England have added Warwickshire all-rounder Chris Woakes to their 15-man Test squad to tour New Zealand as Tim Bresnan is to undergo further treatment on his injured elbow.

Joe Root has been added to the One-Day International squad, meaning James Taylor will captain the England Lions in Australia while both Craig Kieswetter and Jade Dernbach have been dropped from the One-Day International squad.

Dernbach retains his place in the Twenty20 squad as Eoin Morgan and Samit Patel are omitted from the Test squad, which beat India 2-1 late last year.

England play three Twenty20 Internationals followed by three ODIs and three Tests during the tour in February and March.

The five players who are named in the Test squad but not picked for the ODIs (Nick Compton, Graham Onions, Monty Panesar, Kevin Pietersen and Matthew Prior) will link up with coach Andy Flower for a training camp ahead of the four-day game against New Zealand XI.

Middlesex fast bowler James Harris has also been added to the ODI squad.

"This series against New Zealand provides an opportunity for the squad to build on the form they showed against India as we start an important twelve months of Test match cricket," National Selector Geoff Miller said.

"With Tim Bresnan currently unavailable while his elbow is assessed there is a good opportunity for Chris Woakes to gain further experience in the international environment. We have a busy international summer ahead of us and the medical team felt this was an ideal opportunity for Bresnan to take some time out to ensure his elbow is functioning effectively.

"Woakes has impressed on the England Performance Programme and with England Lions and Warwickshire in recent years as well as with England in the limited overs formats.

"Craig Kieswetter has had an extended opportunity in ODI and T20 cricket. He has shown evidence of delivering performances on the international stage however we don't feel these have been delivered consistently enough. As we look forward to the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015 we will look to explore other options.

"The door is not closed to Craig, and he can fight his way back into contention for international selection through consistent high performances with Somerset.

"Joe Root has been named in the one day squad which will provide him with an opportunity to experience international limited overs cricket in different conditions as we continue our planning for the ICC Champions Trophy."

Resuming on 90 for four, they made it to lunch on 158 for five but a century from Matthew Prior, and a nervous final few moments after New Zealand had taken two wickets in three balls to expose Monty Panesar, saw England draw the match, and ensure the series was tied 0-0.

Peter Fulton became the third batsman in the series to score their maiden Test century as New Zealand dominated the opening day of the third and final game against England in Auckland. Yorkshire batsman Jonathan Bairstow will make his sixth Test appearance on Friday after England captain Alastair Cook confirmed he would play in place of the injured Kevin Pietersen. Pietersen has been ruled out due to the nagging knee injury that has been hampering him all tour and England have opted to play Bairstow, a specialist batsman instead of being tempted to play an extra bowler in Chris Woakes, Graham Onions or James Tredwell.
