The women earned their chance to go to Old Trafford through a competition run by Thwaites

Women cricketers were bowled over after taking part in a once in a lifetime coaching session with Lancashire County Cricket Club players Karl Brown and Oliver Newby plus former England Head Coach, Peter Moores at Lancashire County Cricket Club thanks to Thwaites.

The eleven participants won the Thwaites competition which involved individuals telling the Lancashire-based brewer, who are the official sponsors of Lancashire CCC with their Wainwright beer, why they deserved to win the chance to take part.

Cricketers across the country chosen from the many entries received included women who are playing a leading role in the development of the game at adult and junior level, some of whom have already acquired some coaching qualifications.

Lee Williams, marketing manager at Thwaites said: “After being coached by some of the best players in the country as well as a former England coach, I’m sure they’ve all learnt some valuable hints and tips, not only to improve their own individual game but also to enhance their coaching skills which many of the winners are heavily involved in.

”Thwaites is a proud supporter of cricket at both grassroots and county level. Like the competition winners, one of our own employees is also playing a leading role in the development of women’s cricket in Lancashire.”

Peter Moores, Head Coach at LCCC added: “The Lancashire players and coaches were very impressed with the standard of cricket all of the women demonstrated today. They were all eager to learn and enthusiastic to improve their technique during the training session.

“Women’s cricket is taking huge steps forward in Lancashire and beyond and I’m sure they picked up some handy tips and advice that will help both their own development which they can also pass on.”

The prize included a behind the scenes tour of Old Trafford plus a full training session with Lancashire players and coaches.

After an intense workout in the nets, the players headed up to a private bar at Old Trafford and enjoyed a well-earned glass of Wainwright. Each of the winners has also won tickets to see England’s women host West Indies at Old Trafford next Month.
