The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) World Cricket Committee is to meet in Cape Town on 8th and 9th January and the meeting will be chaired for the first time by incoming chairman Mike Brearley.

He replaces Tony Lewis and the committee hope to welcome Kumar Sangakkara as the newest member although is attendance will be subject to team duties during his country's ongoing tour of South Africa.

"When Mike Brearley invited me to join the MCC World Cricket committee he explained exactly what the role of the committee is, and how they would like me to be involved, it was an instant ‘yes’ from my part," Sangakkara said.

"It is a great initiative, and there are some fantastic people already on the committee that can positively influence the very life and spirit of cricket going forward."

On the agenda for the meeting are items including corruption in cricket, the laws of cricket and associated research and the future of the game.

The MCC World Cricket Committee is an independent voice in world cricket and it meets twice a year and was set up in 2006.
