World Cup 2015 Chairman James Strong Passes Away
Chairman of the ICC World Cup 2015 local organising committee (LOC) James Strong has passed away aged 68 in North Sydney, New South Wales.
Strong had been appointed Chairman in August 2011 due to his experience as Chairman of Woolworths Ltd, non-executive director of Qantas Airways Ltd, Chairman of Kathmandu Holdings and a board member of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.
A statement released by the Cricket World Cup 2015 LOC said:
"The Board and staff of the Local Organising Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 are profoundly saddened by the death of their Chairman, James Strong AO.
"James possessed a passion and vision for the tournament that set the tone for the entire organisation. A world-class leader, he was always friendly and approachable, taking the time to get to know the staff and listen to their views."
Paying tribute, World Cup chief executive John Harnden said: "James has been a friend and a mentor to me over a long period and I will miss his company and his advice. He has made a massive contribution to corporate and sporting life in Australia and New Zealand.
"We extend our sincere condolences to his family and many friends. We will continue the work he began on the World Cup and deliver a tournament in 2015 that would make him proud."
