Wrenthorpe are poised to lift the Solly Central Yorkshire League Premier Division title for the third year in a row after a dramatic last over win against Townville.

The reigning champions recovered from 90-5 to reach 217-6 thanks to a sixth wicket stand of 90 between Eric Austin (67 not out) and Greig Batty. Townville needed 25 to win off the last over, but could manage only 21 and finished on 214-7 as Wrenthorpe scraped home by three runs.

With two games left Wrenthorpe are nine points clear of their closest rivals Methley, who won by four wickets are Hunslet Nelson thanks to Marcus Walmsley, who scored  70 not out as they successfully chased their opponents’ 181-9. Walmsley also took three wickets.

A superb innings from Simon Steel lifted Altofts’ hopes of avoiding relegation. Steel scored 165 to help Altofts to reach 282-8 against fellow strugglers Wakefield Thornes. Jordan Anderson (60), Nadeera Nawela (53) and Tom Froggett (50 not out) all scored half centuries as Thornes made a big effort to reach their formidable target, but they fell 39 runs short on 243-8.

Carlton’s relegation worries are over after beating Mirfield Parish by two wickets with two balls remaining. They were staring defeat in the face before Chris Leaf and Tom Taylor came together to put together a matching winning ninth wicket stand of 60, Leaf making 65 not out and Tom Taylor 15. Earlier, MIrfield had totalled 243-7 with Tharaka Gunarathne scoring an unbeaten 113.

Birstall’s problems continued as they slumped to an eight wicket defeat against New Farnley. Benny Howell took 4-16 and Nick Cullen 3-27 as New Farnley bowled them out for a mere 79. Howell then completed a fine all-round performance with 54 not out as Farnley cruised to victory.
