York Cricketers Seal Stunning Hat-Trick In Spain

York Cricket Club have capped a momentous 2012 season by clinching their third trophy of the year with an emphatic 153-run victory in the fifth Kiss Mix Lady Taverners Charity t20 Tournament at Spain’s La Manga Club.

The West Yorkshire side faced Norwegian outfit Nation in the final of the ten-team competition bidding to add to the Yorkshire Premier League and Kingfisher Beer Cup titles they had already won.

York smashed a massive 198-6 from their 20 overs, with Alex Collins hitting a quickfire 74, and their opponents were always struggling as they were eventually bowled out for just 45 in reply.

Captain Dan Woods led from the front with figures of 4-10, with Glen Richmond also impressing taking three wickets as York completed a hugely successful few days in the Spanish sunshine.

York faced seven opponents in the knockout competition including ECB National Club t20 champions Wimbledon, teams from Spain, Switzerland and three sides from Norway.

After winning all three of their matches in the early stages, including defeating the host La Manga Club side by 29 runs, they then moved on to the semi-finals where they were 31-run victors over Centrum.

And a memorable trip for the winners was rounded off when they enjoyed the privilege of playing alongside a Lord’s Taverners Legends XI featuring 1986 England Ashes-winning captain Mike Gatting and a host of other top cricket names in a charity match on the final day.

Running alongside the inaugural Kiss Mix Lord’s Taverners Golf Classic, the t20 tournament was part of a four-day golf and cricket charity extravaganza at the award-winning La Manga Club.

Gatting headlined a star-studded line-up that competed in the golf competition, where he was joined by the likes of former England teammates Phillip DeFreitas and Neil Radford, Surrey captain Gareth Batty and ex-Warwickshire and England international Neil Smith.

The luxurious setting of La Manga Club was the ideal venue for the competition with its three championship golf courses perfectly complemented by the rest of the resort’s wide-ranging facilities, including a 28-court tennis centre and 2,000sqm spa complex.

The golf and cricket competitions are just some of the many events being staged in 2012 by the fundraising organisation - the official charity for recreational cricket and the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity.

Leaders York gained a runaway 123-run win over bottom club Rotherham Town in the Yorkshire ECB Premier League. Foundations for York’s 249 for nine were laid by by Liam McKendry (72) and Alex Collins(63), who put on 110 for the fifth wicket. York then bowled out Rotherham for 126 with Dan Woods taking four for 38 and Duncan Snell three for 17. Ben Sanderson was Rotherham’s best bowler with five for 65.
Furness remain on top of the North Lancashire and Cumbria League Premier Division after both they and nearest challengers Cleator won on a rain-affected weekend. Furness beat Workington by nine wickets, Cleator beat Lindal Moor by six wickets and Cockermouth beat Millom by seven wickets in the only three games that were played to a conclusion.
Just one point separates Totteridge Milhillians (125) and Old Finchleians (124) at the top of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League Division One. In what is turning out to be a tightly-contested season, Flitwick (118), Reed (115) and Hertford (111) are also in contention.
Ealing took advantage of bad weather elsewhere to establish a 12-point lead over Hampstead at the top of the 2013 Middlesex ECB Premier League. While they managed to defeat Finchley by seven wickets, the remaining four matches were either drawn or abandoned as rain interrupted the programme.
Record breaker Richard Gould wrote himself into the JCT 600 Bradford League history books with a innings of 218 for Gomersal in a second division match against Great Horton. It is the highest individual score in the league's 110-year history, breaking the previous record set by Azam Khan with 214 for Hartshead Moor against Keighley in 1998, which was equalled only a fortnight ago by Windhill’s overseas batsman Fakhar Hussain, also against Great Horton.
Old Fincleians preserved their unbeaten record at the top of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League as Hertford lost theirs, dropping to fourth place in the process. Their defeat to Flitwick, who dismissed them for 73, enabled both Flitwick and Reed to jump ahead of them while Old Finchleians beat Totteridge Milhillians to go six points clear of Flitwick in second place.
