India’s selection panel, led by Kris Srikkanth, has continued its rotation policy when selecting their One-Day International squad for their tour of Sri Lanka, which begins in Hambantota later this month.
Virender Sehwag, Umesh Yadav and Zaheer Khan, who were both rested for the Asia Cup in March, have returned to the 15-man squad, while Sachin Tendulkar has been rested for the five-match series.
In the spin department, Ravindra Jadeja has been discarded following a poor CB Series and IPL and is replaced by fellow slow left-armer Pragyan Ojha. Rahul Sharma has been retained and will partner Ravichandran Ashwin, but once again there is no place for the Essex-bound Harbhajan Singh.
Zaheer will lead a pace attack that is without Praveen Kumar, who was dropped following a disappointing IPL, and will rely on Ashok Dinda and Ranganath Vinay Kumar for support.
Elsewhere, the Pathan brothers, Yusuf and Irfan, were left out from those that featured in the Asia Cup, while batsmen Ajinkya Rahane and Manoj Tiwary were retained. Virat Kohli has again been given the vice-captaincy as India look to the future.
India squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain, wicket-keeper), Virat Kohli (vice-captain), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ashok Dinda, Gautam Gambhir, Zaheer Khan, Pragyan Ojha, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Sharma, Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Ranganath Vinay Kumar, Umesh Yadav.
