Zimbabwe 143-7 (Chigumbura 49no, Shahid Afridi 4-24) beat
Pakistan 131 (Utseya 4-15, Chigumbura 3-16) by 12 runs
ICC World Twenty20 warm-up, Saint Lucia
Not content with humbling 50-over world champions Australia two days ago, Zimbabwe shocked reigning ICC World Twenty20 champions Pakistan with a 12-run win just a day before the 2010 tournament gets underway in the Caribbean.
Elton Chigumbura produced an inspirational all-round performance to score an unbeaten 49 and then take three wickets as Zimbabwe first posted 143 for seven and then dismissed Pakistan for 131 in reply.
Chigumbura faced 35 balls and hit three fours and three sixes as he hit out at the end of the innings to good effect, excellent early work having been done by Hamilton Masakadza (33) and Charles Coventry (30 in 19 balls).
Pakistan captain and leg-spinner Shahid Afridi returned four for 24 and Mohammad Sami was the other man to pick up a wicket.
Pakistan then stumbled to 33 for three and 67 for five in reply, the Zimbabwean bowlers sharing the wickets around until Prosper Utseya dismissed Kamran Akmal (37) and Fawad Alam (32) to put his side back in control.
He went on to return four for 15 while Chigumbura ripped out the Pakistan lower order to pick up three for 16 and condemn Pakistan to defeat.
