Zimbabwe Surprise Australia In Cape Town

Australia 138-9 (Hodge 35no, Symonds 33, Chigumbura 3-20, Brent 2-19)
Zimbabwe 139-5 (Taylor 60no) in Cape Town
Zimbabwe win by five wickets

Zimbabwe made good use of bowler-friendly conditions to limit the powerful Australians to a below-par score before scrambling home in an nail-biting finale in their Group B Twenty20 World Cup match in Cape Town.

Brendan Taylor brilliantly anchored their run chase, which was interrupted by a rain shower. Duckworth-Lewis was against them, but two sixes from Taylor and then a four from the first ball of the last over gave them a chance.

The penultimate ball found its way to the boundary via Taylor's pad to seal a remarkable victory.

Earlier, there was to be no blazing away from Matthew Hayden or Adam Gilchrist, as both were dismissed by Elton Chigumbura as Australia slipped to 12 for 2, then 19 for 3 when captain Ricky Ponting was caught as well.

Andrew Symonds and Brad Hodge counter-attacked, but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals as a pumped up, energetic Zimbabwean side surprised both Australia and the watching world with their display.

They fielded excellently as a unit, and then proved their batting was also up to the task.
