Canada 142-7 (Billcliff 37) by six wickets
ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier Group B, Dubai
Scorecard

Bas Zuiderent struck an unbeaten 43 to guide the Netherlands to a six-wicket victory over Canada with five balls of their ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier Group B match remaining in Dubai.

After Canada reached 142 for seven, Zuiderent's innings ensured the Netherlands closed the match on 146 for four in the final over and join Afghanistan, USA and the UAE as winners on the opening day.

John Davison marked his latest return to international cricket with a duck as Canada made a terrible start, also losing Rizwan Cheema, who was forced to retire on three to leave Canada on six for two after nine balls.

Their innings was given much-needed impetus by Geoff Barnett (36) and then Ian Billcliff, who top scored with 37 in 30 balls but Hiral Patel, who made 25, was the only other batsman to make a start as Pieter Seelaar grabbed two for 18 while four bowlers took a wicket apiece.

In reply, the Dutch made a fine start, openers Alexei Kervezee (39) and Eric Szwarczynski (25) putting on 57 in six overs for the first wicket, allowing Zuiderent time to get in.

He then struck two fours and one six as he guided his side home despite losing the wickets of Peter Borren for 12 and Ryan ten Doeschate for 17.

Canada's next game is against Kenya while Netherlands play the UAE in their next match.
