How the match unfolded
Australia suffered a five-wicket loss to New Zealand in the final Commonwealth Bank Women's T20I at Allan Border Field today.
Batting first on what proved to be a tricky wicket, Australia's top order struggled to get going with Alyssa Healy (8), Beth Mooney (11) and Rachael Haynes (3) all dismissed cheaply.
Captain Meg Lanning (21) and Ashleigh Gardner (29) did their best to steady the innings and propel the total, before a handy 18 from Sophie Molineux helped boost Australia's score to 7-123.
New Zealand got off to a steady start in reply, reaching 27 before Delissa Kimmince (1-17) removed Maddy Green for 10.
White Ferns captain Sophie Devine looked in ominous form, reaching 25 off 22 balls before leg-spinner Georgia Wareham (2-19) had her stumped.
A fine piece of fielding from Rachael Haynes saw Suzie Bates run out for three leaving the game in the balance, but a 52-run partnership between Amy Satterthwaite (30) and Katey Martin (23) swung the momentum the way of New Zealand.
Australia fought back through Jess Jonassen (1-15) and Wareham, the duo removing Satterthwaite and Martin but the damage had been done with the visitors brining up the win with three balls remaining.
The two sides will now face off in three One-Day Internationals starting on Saturday with the coveted Rose Bowl trophy up for grabs.
