AB de Villiers dethrones Virat Kohli from top position in ICC ODI Rankings
South Africa batsman AB de Villiers has climbed to the top position in International Cricket Council rankings for batsmen following his stellar knock in the second One-Day International against Bangladesh in Paarl on Wednesday.
Coming on to bat at number four, the former South African captain slammed 176 runs off 104 deliveries to help the Proteas reach 353 for six in the 50 overs. As a result, he has now leapfrogged both Virat Kohli and David Warner to the pole position in the rankings with a slender two point lead over the Indian captain.
Also, the consistent performances of the South African openers Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla saw them rise to the fifth and the ninth position in the rankings.
Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has also climbed to the fourth position in the rankings following his back to back centuries in the series against Sri Lanka while Hasan Ali has claimed the top position in the list for bowlers after his five wicket haul in the third game in Abu Dhabi while Mohammad Hafeez, who was recently reported for a suspected illegal bowling action has displaced Shakib Al Hasan in the top ranking for the all-rounders.
The 2-0 series win for South Africa also meant they have reclaimed the top position in the team rankings from India.
