Ackermann, Wells steer Leicestershire to five-wicket win after McKay brilliance
Leicestershire 149-5 (Ackermann 47no) beat
Worcestershire 148-5 (McKay 5-11) by five wickets
North Group, Natwest T20 Blast, Worcester
Clint Mckay registered majestic figures of 11 for five as Leicestershire restricted Worcestershire to 148 for five in their innings and later chased down the target in 18.3 overs with five wickets in hand in the Natwest T20 Blast North Group encounter at New Road.
Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat first. In his first two overs (5-11), McKay accounted for both Joe Clarke (0) and Brett D'Oliveira (2) following which Daryl Mitchell (31) and Ben Cox (51) added 56 runs.
Just when the hosts were gaining momentum, Leicestershire once again came up with wickets in quick succession but Cox along with cameos from John Hastings (16 not out) and Ed Barnard (15) helped Worcestershire post 148 for five in the 20 overs.
Even though, Luke Ronchi (27) and Cameron Delport (23) provided a solid opening stand of 41 runs from four overs, Leicestershire lost momentum and were positioned 68 for four.
However, Ackermann (47 not out) counterattacked the Worcestershire bowlers but it was Wells (31 not out) with his 16-ball cameo that helped Leicestershire complete the chase in 18.3 overs with five wickets in hand.
McKay was named the player of the match as Leicestershire move to third in points table.
